Dana Weston – The “ROOKIE” Segment

Dana Weston, who hails from St. Martin’s, New Brunswick, is a rookie in the Atlantic Open Wheel ranks but not around the Maritime speedways. Being the brother of Jamie Weston, a former AOW regular competitor, was Dana’s “in” to the AOW series. “My brother Jamie started in AOW and ran it for five or six years, then he moved up to the Sportsman class. He, and Joe Hoyt talked, and they put me in the car. This is my Rookie year.”

Weston was then asked about how he felt about getting his start in racing in an AOW machine. “I love it. I’m having a lot of fun, that’s the main thing. I’m getting a lot of seat time and I’m starting to become competitive now. I haven’t won any races yet but I have some top five finishes and that’s pretty good.”

The AOW recently made the trek to Lake Doucette Motor Speedway, just outside Yarmouth, and Dana Weston was one of them. He was asked about this experience. “Awesome !!! The owners and the fellows down there and the fans were great. It made it definitely worth the haul.”

Weston went on to say “It’s a beautiful track. It was a challenge to drive for our guys on the Tour. Turns one and two are tricky, slippery so you have to be real careful getting in and out. I hope we get a chance to go down again next year. The crowd down there was just amazing. They treated us very good. They got to come out and see the cars and we had a lot of fun. Joe Hoyt, number 17, let one of the local drivers take his car into the “Outlaw “race. He got pretty hooked on it. You never know, we may have picked up someone.”

“The Tour is starting to grow again. There should be fifteen to seventeen cars by the end of the season. There are about thirteen here today.”

Weston was asked if there was anything about the Tour he would like to see changed or reviewed. “ I would like to run longer features. We ran a forty five lap  feature at Lake Doucette and only had one caution. We had a blast.”

With that, Weston returned to making preparations for the race at Shediac today.
