The Eye In The Sky - August 6 preview

This Saturday, The Atlantic Open Wheel Modified Tour is making its 2nd stop of the year to Petty International Raceway. Petty was recently resurrected after 10 years of quiet dormancy. Then Wayne Smith, Brett Benoit & Craig McFetridge came together and decided to buy the track and revamp it for the 2011 season. I was on hand for the ribbon cutting on that beautiful June 4th night and it was something special. The AOW tour has already had a race at Petty International Raceway. It was a 20 lap feature before a great crowd despite the grey skies. Paul Costain of the Moncton area took home his first ever feature win. This time around, a couple of racers have gotten their cars ready since that race which will expand the field size. We are expecting 15-17 cars to show up and put on a great showing since the last race. This season, Paul Costain, John Godfrey, Ken Deveau & Shelley Stewart have all been to victory lane. Everyone is up on their games and the competition is expected to increase in front of a, hopefully, bigger crowd at the new track. I’m expecting a new winner this week to keep the streak going. Along with the Atlantic Open Wheel Modified Tour, The NAPA Sportsman tour & Petty 4CYL class are going to be racing as well. I’m also expecting a great race and I bet most of you race fans are too. On behalf of Jesse Thompson & Cyril Hall and the entire tour, we say see you at the races. And remember, racing is nice for the short tracks, not for the highways. Stay safe everyone.
